Lunar New Year Holidays 2024 農曆新年

Time flies and we are already three months into 2024! If you’ve been following my monthly look back, you probably know that I’ve been busy migrating my blog to a new server. Better than what I originally projected, the transfer of all contents had already been done last week. What remains is to monitor the new system and make any necessary tweaks; my life is finally back to normal.

話咁快 2024 又過了差不多四份一,大家如果有留意我最近的每月回顧,大概都知道我忙於轉移我的網誌去新的 server。上星期尾剛完成全部 contents 的搬動,剩下來是新系統的監察及作適當的微調,空間多一點,生活又可暫時回常。

Tin Hau Festival Celebration at Sai Kung

The 23rd of March of the Lunar Calendar is the birthday of Tin Hau (or Mazu in Taiwan). According to informal historical recording, she was born in China around the 10th century and was later became the Goddess of the Sea.

This year, the Tin Hau birthday (or Tin Hau Festival) was on 8 May 2018. There are various celebration activities held by local communities in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and several traditional fishing villages.

On last Saturday, my family and I visited Sai Kung, an old fishing village in Hong Kong, and had a glimpse into one of the local celebration events.

Hoi Nin Fan (First Meal of the Lunar Year) 開年飯

Turnip Rice Pudding (Lo Bak Gou) for Chinese New Year 賀年傳統食品 – 蘿蔔糕

Time flies, the Chinese New Year is coming and my wife suggested to prepare some festival food for celebration. There are a lot of traditional foods like Crispy Pastry Dumpling (Yau Kok), Sesame balls (Gin Dui), Glutinous Rice Cake (Lin gou) and Turnip Rice pudding (Lo Bak Gou).

In the good old days, most of these festival foods were homemade by our mothers or bought from supermarkets. Since we are free this year, we decided to make our own “Lo Bak Gou” …

歲月匆匆,瞬間農曆新年就到來,太太提議自行做些過年食品。傳統的過年食品有很多,例如油角、煎堆、年糕及蘿蔔糕等。以往這些食品都是家中老人家所做或從外購買,今年有時間,我們一家人就嘗試一下做蘿蔔糕吧 …
