First ride for 2018 Cycle Life Challenge

Just joined the 2018 Cycle Life Challenge initiated by Cycle365.life.

The rules of the game are very simple as highlighted in their site:

Cycle Life Challenge Rules

Since it’s a Challenge, there are Rules. Since someone has to make up the rules, I appointed myself Goddess to do so. Your Goddess looks forward to seeing where you go and what you do, dear ones.

1. You must go on a bike ride at least seven (7) times between March 9 and April 30, 2018.

2. You must support the local economy through which you ride by some sort of purchase.

3. You must post accounts of your rides with photographic proof of rules 1 and 2.

The Fine Print

There is an extreme amount of wiggle room for all these rules. Use your imagination and take advantage of it. The fine print herewith is only to stimulate that imagination.

Rule 1: This is easy enough: Go on a bike ride at least seven times during the Challenge. Doesn’t matter how long a ride. Doesn’t matter where. Doesn’t matter if it’s on a trainer. Doesn’t matter if it’s to do errands. Doesn’t matter if you’re on an extended tour. Doesn’t matter if it’s the same route every time.

Rule 2: Supporting the local economy means you buy something locally either before the ride and take it along (i.e., snacks, new water bottle, new bike), or during your ride (i.e., snacks, new water bottle, new tubes).

Rule 3: Write it up. Post photographic evidence of your ride and your economic contributions. Tell us why you took this particular route. Teach us a little local history. Show off the good and the bad about where you live. How good was that coffee or tea or craft beer or pastry or fresh fruit or chain lube or groceries that you bought?

Since I can’t go out today, I kickstarted my first ride with a Virtual Ride in Lake Biwa, Kyoto.

A tough 34 Kilometers ride along the Northern part of Lake Biwa. Average gradient is 4.4% and the maximum gradient of 23.9% (??).
